One of the unexpected things I might do is safari in Serengeti. These two words that looked mysterious before. Mysterious that I’ve never allowed myself to think of. I mean honestly, I’m not a girl who wear that timberland and lets hike hehe. I won’t lie to you, but I’m a beach girl, I love to dress up and eat yummy food in nice places where I feel safe and spoiled.
Since this place had finally chosen and approved. I decided that I need to google Safari trips and know more how things go during this kind of trips. Well, what I found wasn’t pleasing, I literally panicked how much people love to share scary stories hehe. It took my husband a while to convince me otherwise .. Hmmm … a lot has changed when I was informed that he found that Four Seasons has a Lodge in the heart of Serengeti. Now, don’t judge me. My 4-year-old kid is coming with us, I just want to feel super safe.
So, the first thing you hear when arrive Tanzania is “Karibo” which means Welcome, and “Hakuna Matata” (honestly I didn’t know it was a real word though) which means no worries. You get the feeling that these people really are living with the idea of Hakuna Matata, no rush, relax, it could take you half an hour to get a five-minute task done.
The trip wasn’t that far from where I live (Jeddah), and the experience of the shutter for the first time was so much fun. and best of all is that my kid enjoyed each bit of it. The very first moment when the shutter landed in Seronera Airport which is the primary airstrip in the Serengeti National Park, “I’m not sure if I can call it an airport as it’s a lot different from our definition of an airport”. It was so funny to me that most of the people there were so excited upon landing, holding their binocular and started looking around in that vast area of nothingness hehe”.
I got excited, too. Now that we made it to Serengeti, I thought it would be harder than this. Now, what’s next .. what’s next. All the feelings have changed now. My heart started beating fast of excitement. This trip turned out to be one of the very best travel experience of my life, so far. Well, my daughter for the first time and my beloved sister were just great companies to this adventure.
Once we finalized our papers, I wanted to fly there, yes I was laughing for no obvious reason, just an excited child. Through our way to the lodge, Ohhhh we saw a good number of animals, this is my first encounter with animals in their very environment. I gotta say, this feeling is not like anything you’ve ever experienced. They look so peaceful in that enormous space just living their normal life.
You have to go to Safari game drive every day for hours to get the chance to see different animals in different places. Luck plays a role here. Unfortunately, I wasn’t lucky enough to meet with cheetahs. They are shy animals. I was lucky enough to see his tail through my binocular hanging on a tree where lots and lots of safari cars were standing there for hours waiting for this beautiful creature to get down. I only stayed half an hour was too much hehe.
Our Villa has the greatest view on the open savannah. I wake up every day seeing Zebras, Elephants, Impalas, Thomson gazelles and wild pigs few meters away from my terrace. This daily routine was enough to get you the deeper feeling of the experience, with the silence of the soft wind and the soft breeze of the morning, just you, nature, and God.
We spent the day’s in-game drives seeing most of the animals and hoping to be lucky enough to meet with some of the big five “lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard, and rhinoceros” which some of them is rarely seen. We were lucky enough to see lions up close, and they were checking our car for quite a while when my sister tried to get pictures of them “most of these up close photos were blurry. Apparently, she was terrified hehe”.
What makes Serengeti a temple for those who eager for the ultimate experience of the wildlife is that Serengeti National Park is located in the heart of the larger Serengeti ecosystem, which is defined by the area covered by the annual migration including around 1.5 million hectares of savannah, the annual migration of two million wildebeests and thousands of gazelles and zebras accompanied by their predators. These animals are in search of grass and water in their annual migration.
So what else can we do when finishing game drives. I’m sure you will need to experience the spa at least twice, that safari car kept shaking us for hours hehe. Then the best part, dinner on candle lights where the stars look so close that you feel like you can reach them. The weather is getting a little cooler, and the food tastes amazing while Maasai are doing their dance. I have my exhausted little girl in my arms already sleeping and snoring making a cute scene for the others. Everyone looks so happy as we exchange our stories and showing each other the photos we got for the day. The place wasn’t that big that you feel like these people are already a family.
The Lodge arranges a beautiful trip to Ngorongoro reservation as well where you get the chance to see the big five, and some migration in action. This area is a wildlife sanctuary, the incredible, unparalleled beauty of nature where you get to see the true colors of everything. Weather is nicer and cooler. A trip like this would take you the whole day, and if you’re accompanied by a kid, you don’t have to worry. The lodge has a beautiful nursery with a gorgeous well-trained team who arranges indoor and outdoor activities. The trip includes visiting Maasai village and knows how they live closely, visiting their houses and schools, etc.
If you’re into these kinds of adventurous trips, then I highly recommend Four Seasons Lodge where the most impressive nature spectacles and African luxury speak loud there.
