Venice … the city of love, romance and passion. It’s definitely one of the most wanted destination for couples. Remember asking most of my family members and friends about where would they like to spend their honeymoon, so most of the answers were surprisingly Venice. Well, we’ve seen it many times in romantic movies, we fell in love with its canals, and we dreamt of riding on that gondola with its fancy ornaments. For sure Venice is one of the tourists top ten traveling destination. As a result, it’s truly crowded.
Venice considered to be the capital of northern Italy’s “Veneto region”. This charming place is built on small islands in the Adriatic Sea. As a result, there is no roads , just canals and the transportations are gondolas or boats.
Now, my relationship with Venice started upon watching my favorite Bond (007) movie Casino Royale “which I watched over 15 times hehe”, starred by my hero Daniel Craig “best Bond of all time”. Anyway, the movie was shot in Venice with all the glamorous effects of bond and all that Venice charming romance. I fell deeply deeply in love with this place. Before we go, I searched almost each and every corner of it that it looked so familiar to me when I finally met with in person. That moment when we reached the Grand canal thoroughfare to the center of the city was so tremendous, when the scene of nothing just opened wide to see that gothic buildings surrounds you left and right and different kinds of boats “just so glamorous” I cried hehe “for real”.
So, as part of normally being me, is to have an incident every time we travel. So my husband learned that in that particular time, in that particular place, Biennale (Biennale is an annual art exhibition based in Venice) theme was architecture. He was so excited to go that I couldn’t refuse. The place turned to be a lot bigger than I thought. totally this wasn’t the place I want to spend hours and hours in checking doors and windows and stuff. As a result, I decided to rest in a cafeteria until he finishes his tour. So upon his leave, I discovered that there are more than 3 cafeterias and the place was big enough to get lost. Of course, I want to get lost in Italy. So I got lost for hours then it turned out to be the best escape.
Places to visit in Venice are known to almost everyone including the Grand Canal thoroughfare lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica The central square “Lonely planet would do better job in this hehe”. Walking there with no map is just charming, the sun sets at 9 p.m. that’s a long long day ahead of us.
Interesting fact that our gondola driver told us, is that a gondolier is not a profession for everyone as you must follow one of the gondola schools, where there are intensive courses that include studying foreign language, Venetian art and the history of Venice, as well. Then you should pass the internship of 6 months minimum. After the apprenticeship you must take a practical exam in the presence of 5 judges. long story but this is really a major part of Venice scene and its worth it. Our gondolier was kind enough to allow me to drive his gondola in a place where no one was around as it’s not allowed 🙂
Of course Murano Island in Venice is a must see place. My husband took me to that amazing Murano glass boutique named “Marina e Susanna sent” which he found on the internet . A boutique that worth giving a visit, all the pieces are just pure art, handmade, just so artistic design made of Murano glass in Venice”. This beautiful bobble necklace was absolutely pretty on the neck, made of murano glass, it’s a statement piece that would update your simple top and make it stand out. Everybody was asking me about it, pretty eye-catching.
Food is great everywhere in Italy as long as you are away from the tourists areas. It was like a ritual for me to have a coffee at Saint Marcos square cafe while the Violin band play their stimulative symphony. The kind of music that can calm you down and relaxes your muscle tensions after a long long day of walking and discovering. That kind of music that would simply put you in a peace mood, watching other people enjoying their vacation and have a sweet relaxed talk. To be honest, there was another reason that took me there. It’s the coffee and tiramisu hehe. Coffee in Venice is soooo good I can’t describe. If you haven’t experience this yet. Make it your next trip.
